Who Are We and Why Are We Here?

Joe Scherrman - Owner / Filmmaker

I'm Joe Scherrman owner of DreamCatcher Productions LLC. I've been associated with the family business, Scherrman Implement and Scherrman's Brand Source since the early 1970's. We have five generations of Scherrmans working this, sales and service, corporation.

Over the years of promoting our business, Dyersville and North East Iowa, I realized I had my own dream to fulfill and a lot of stories to tell. The best way, for me, to tell stories is through film. My first award-winning film was made in 1971 called "A Dream is What You Make of It." My life was pretty full between the stores and family duties so I set aside most video work beyond an occasional short project, wedding or special event.

The corporate training video I produced for Kaiser Contract Cleaning won the 2006 award for Excellence by the Iowa Motion Picture Association. I have had my video, called b-roll, shown on most network and cable channels. Some of my footage is featured in the Field of Dreams 15 Year Anniversary DVD. My documentary, GHOST PLAYER: RELIVE THE MAGIC has been nominated for more than 20 awards (and received many of them too).

In order to make a documentary about the Field of Dreams Ghost Players, I had to relearn the trade. I started video taping for hire, producing corporate training videos, event, and wedding videos. I started DreamCatcher Productions, LLC. I joined the Iowa Motion Picture Association and the Iowa Screen Writers Association. This has allowed me to offer complete video services and enjoy the work I love.

In 2010, I signed on as an Executive Producer for the feature film EASTON'S ARTICLE which is presently in post production with a talented young writer/director Tim Connery from Iowa Dirt Films. That feature film project, a documentary about the Lake Delhi Dam in conjunction with Creative Maxims, and a working on a documentary/concert DVD about Clay Riness has me pretty busy in vary different fields of movie work. And I just love it all.

Easton's Article

This is my first foray into fictional feature filmmaking. Tim Connery's script and filmmaking skills are excellent and am happy to share the title of executive producer with Neil Kapp. Tim's pulled together a fine team and the production is going well. For more about Easton's Article - Click Here

Working Title: We'll Be Back: The Lake Delhi Story

Charles & Mary Cunliffe of Creative Maxims, LLC and Joe Scherrman at DreamCatcher Productions, LLC are developing a documentary about Lake Delhi in Iowa, and are very interested in hearing from as many families as possible about life on the lake. Tim Connery - Manager/Director

For the better part of the past decade I've been gradually honing my skills as a filmmaker and storyteller. My professional career began upon admission to the world’s largest film school at Columbia College in Chicago, Illinois. At Columbia, I completed a number of short films, two of which have received accolades and screenings in the US film festival market. In May of 2009, I graduated from Columbia with a cumulative GPA of 3.83. My biggest project to date is the independent sci-fi feature film "Easton's Article" which had its World Premiere screening at North America's largest film festival, the Seattle International Film Festival, in June 2012. It has also screened at the renowned fantasy/sci-fi/horror fest Fantasia in Montreal, Fresh Film Festival in Prague, and won Best Director & Best Cinematography at the Iowa Motion Picture Awards. Overall I have over six years of experience in pushing film and video work through from preproduction to exhibition phases. I am well rounded in all aspects of production, including equipment knowledge, vigorous in field problem solving abilities, and workflow management. My creative capacity has been tested again and again through conceiving ideas, shaping them to script/treatment format, executing the vision within the limitations of a budget, and completing with a visual product that's audience attentive and emotionally effective. It's my pleasure to be a part of such a skilled storytelling team here at DreamCatcher Productions.

Kylie Clark - Cinematographer/Editor

My love affair with film began with an interest in acting for the camera. But after auditioning for the theatre department at my boarding school, Interlochen Arts Academy, I quickly realized it wasn't the place for me. Soon afterward, I was accepted into the motion picture arts department. Needless to say, I now can't imagine why I had ever thought I could devote myself to anything else. In two years of schooling I was a part of over 30 student-led film sets, written, directed and edited two short films and lensed five short films. I have since gone on to begin work on my own personal films, as well as teaching myself to shoot stop-motion animation. My keen sense of storytelling allows me to make the most appropriate decisions possible in the technical realm, which is why I feel such an affinity with the more unique ways of shooting. I pride myself in the fact that I can teach myself to use almost any equipment, or learn to make that which we either can't afford or can't obtain. I am currently preparing myself to start school at Loras College in Dubuque, IA as an Art and Digital Design major in order to further understand light and colour in the real world.
